Volunteering while on a regular Tourist Visa is strictly prohibited in Bali.

Violating this rule can result in severe consequences such as significant fines, deportation, or even imprisonment. Nonetheless, it is possible to obtain a suitable visa that permits volunteering in Bali.

The Indonesian government prohibits visitors on tourist visas from engaging in any form of work, whether paid or unpaid. They categorize tourists who volunteer without the appropriate visa as ‘illegal foreign workers’.

1. Practice responsible waste management by avoiding single-use plastic items and properly disposing of trash. Consider participating in beach/village clean-up efforts to contribute to Bali’s conservation.
2. Show appreciation for exceptional service by generously tipping local individuals. Providing cash directly to locals can be a meaningful way to support the community.
3. Support local Balinese foundations and non-profits dedicated to various causes such as children’s welfare, poverty alleviation, and animal welfare. Making a donation to organizations aligned with your values can make a significant difference.
